CORONAVIRUS JOB RETENTION SCHEME (“Furlough” scheme)

The Government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme is now live, with businesses able to claim up to £2,500 a month towards staff wages.

OUR HELPING HAND

The Government has made the Furlough scheme relatively straightforward, and have provided a lot of helpful information. What they can’t do is provide the means for you to agree the furlough with your employees.

GIDE CAN. AND IT’S FREE.

We provide a simple process, based on expert guidance from ACAS, that takes account of the necessary requirements. It even provides a means to obtain your employees’ signatures, online, and provides both you and your employee with evidence of your agreement. All you have to do is upload some basic details about your business and your furloughed employees (the model spreadsheet is available here.). Our system does the rest.

Here’s a list of the details you need:

  • Business name
  • Employee name
  • Furlough start date
  • Salary period (week/month)
  • Salary or wage
  • Manager/HR contact
  • Employee email address (the system will automatically email the agreement for signature)

Once the details have been included, the system combines the information and produces the agreement. You will be able to download a PDF for your records. You can find an example of the agreement here.

NOTES

The Furlough scheme allows employers to claim a cash grant of up to 80% of a furloughed employees wages, capped at £2,500 a month.

Employers can apply for direct cash grants through HMRC’s new online portal – with the money expected to land in their bank accounts within six working days.

Employers can furlough anyone they employ, provided that on or before March 19 they were on PAYE payroll and HMRC has been notified of payment via the RTI system. You can find more information at GOV.UK.
